Thomas Holcombe and Elizabeth Ferguson
Thomas was born in 1609 in England. He came to the New World in the 1630s.1 Thomas and Elizabeth had the following children: Mary (1636-1708), Abigail (1639-1688), Joshua (1640-1690), Sarah (1642-1654), Benajah (1644-1737), Nathaniel (1648-1740), Deborah (1649-1686), and Jonathan (1652-1656). After Thomas' death Elizabeth married James Eno.

Ezra Holcomb and Phoebe Gillett (1741-1802) had the following children: Ezra (1755-1835), Levi (1763-1854), and Enos.

Ezra Holcomb, Jr. was born in 1755 in Connecticut. He married Lucy (1779-1827). They had the following children: Enos (1801-1870), Harvey (1802-1873), Hannah (1807-1891), and Ezra Holcomb, III (1813-1880).
Harvey was born in Connecticut. He was married Elizabeth Corbin. They had the following children: Vincent (1837-), Leonard (1839-), Lucy (1843-), Anna (1848-), Mele (1851-), Loyal (1852), Rose (1857-). Harvey was a farmer. According to the 1860 census, Vincent was a medical student and Leonard was a day laborer.

Hannah married Milo Claud Rose. They had the following children: Lucian, Celma (1839-1920), Timothy (1843-1929), and Caroline (1850-1917). Milo was a farmer, according to the 1850 census. The family was living in Ohio.
Celma married John Beed on November 10 1864 in Iowa.2 Timothy married Christina Hacker on Christmas day in 1867. He was a Civil War Veteran.3 Caroline married Emmannel Haecker.4 |
Ezra Holcomb III was a farmer in Iowa. The 1880 census shows him living close to his siblings and their families.
Enos Holcomb and Jeanette Harmon
Enos Holcomb was born in 1801 to Ezra and Lucy Holcomb in Connecticut per the 1850 census. He married Jeanette Harmon and they had the following children: Henry (1834-1912), George (1836-1907), Julia (1839-1907), Lucy (1842-), Richard (1843-1929), Royal (1844-1864), Homer (1844-1914), and Alice (1851-1919). Per the 1850 census he was living with his son Edward Holcomb and was a farm laborer. In 1870 he was living with another son, Henry. 5
Henry Holcomb married Eliza Thorp (1829-1862) and they had two children: Harriet (1858- 1870) and Jerusha (1859-). He married again after Eliza's death to Charlotte (1840-1916) and they had the following children: Tonie Lourissa (1864-1929), Charles (1867-), Ida (1867-), Arthur (1877-) and Ruth (1885-). Henry and his family lived in Ohio. He was a farm laborer.
Edward married Eveleen Lewis (1845-) on July 2, 1858. They had two children: Charles (1861-1928) and Alida (1863-1927).
George married Mary Gould (1830-) and they had the following children: James (1859-), May (1861-), Alice (1862-1876), Charles (1867-), and Ella (1869-).
Julia married Henry Carson on November 11, 1858. They had the following children: William (1859-), Henrietta (1860-), Mary (1863-), Carrie (1865-), Charles (1869-), Jessie (1870-), Lucy (1872-), Mattie (1876-), and Homer (1879-).
Lucy married Thomas Chamerlin.
Richard married twice, first to Lucinda Witt (1844-1933) and they had the following children: George (1867-1956), Ida (1870-1901), Charles (1873-), Nelle (1875-), and Cora (1879-1895). His second wife was Almyra (1856-). They had the following children: Richard (1884-), Edna (1885-), Claud (1888-), Addie (1892-), Jessie (1894-), and Hattie (1897-).
Homer married Mary Sherlock (1854-1873). Mary was the daughter of Thomas Sherlock and Emma Doncaster. She was the sister of Thomas H. Sherlock, husband of Homer’s sister, Alice. They had the following child: Lucy Ellen (1864-1940). He also married Mary Osborn (1853-) and they had the following children: Justa (1875-), Sidney (1878-), and Asa (1885-).

Alice Holcomb and Thomas Sherlock
Alice was born in Ohio in 1851. She married Thomas H. Sherlock. They had several children: Edith, May, Ethel, Edward, Joseph, Frank, Lee, and George.1
The death certificate identifies Alice as being a white female born in February of 1851. She had been the wife of a brick mason and laborer. Alice Sherlock died on March 10, 1919 in Verdigris, Kansas. Her obituary, in the March 14, 1919 edition of the Fredonia Daily Herald indicated that this was due to a prolonged illness:
Mrs. Alice Sherlock, wife of Thos. Sherlock, who lives north of town passed away March 10th, after several months of suffering. Mrs. Sherlock was born in Ohio on February 27, 1851, and died March 10, 1919. She was well known in this vicinity, having lived here for a number of years and counted her friends by the score. The funeral took place from the home on Tuesday, followed by a large concourse of friends who deeply sympathize with the family in their bereavement. All of the chidrhen [sic] were present consisting of the following: Mrs. Edith White of Chanute, Mrs. May Kelly of this place, and Mrs. Ethel Keller and Edward, Joseph, Frank, Lee, and George, besides several grandchildren. Charles Colby and daughter of Sedan, Kan. The remains were laid to rest in the Coyville cemetery. |
