Robert Compton and Pemilia Bryant
Robert Noah Compton was born on August 12, 1840 in Cherokee County, Georgia. He married Pemilia Bryant (1849-1905) on January 31, 1866 in Lincoln county, Tennessee.1 According to the 1870 census, Robert (who went by Noah) was a farmer.
They had the following children: Mary (1866-), William (1868-1955), John (1873-1967), Martha (1875-1947), Harvey (1878-1934), Sidney (1880-1947), Eula (1885-1976), Georgia (1887-1940), and James (1889-1942). In 1905 Pemilia died in Eastland, Texas. They had been married for 39 years. He married Amanda Wood (1850-1930). Robert died in Eastland, Texas on January 9, 1928.
Mary Margaret Compton married William Yeager on March 6, 1889 in Morgan County, Alabama.2 They had the following children: Lela (1890-1978), Onnie (1892-1955), Ethel (1895-1992), William (1897-1963), and Ernest (1900-1985).

William Noah Compton resided in Tennessee for many years before moving to Texas. His family settled in Eastland County. He told the 1920 census taker that he was a farmer by trade and owned his property. He was able to read and write.
He was married twice: First to Anna Strain (1864-1913) and then to Ona Gentry (1875-1945). He and Anna had the following children: Annie (1892-1919), Winnie Mae (1894-1977), Dewey (1898-1991), Ines (1900-1997), and Julia (1903-2001). Ona had the following cild: Willie (1915-2010). He died in Eastland County in 1955. According to the Mitchell County News August 23, 1955 edition, he died on a Friday at Root Hospital in Colorado City. He'd been ill for three years and was visiting his daughter Ines when he became more seriously ill and went to the hospital, where he passed way. John married Fannie Lou Francis (1876-1903) in 1896. They had the following children: Alver Laverne (1897-1977), Flossie Marie (1899-1969), Reginald (1901-1992), and O.C. (1903-1924). After Fannie's death, John married Letitia Hock (1874-1964) in 1905 in Eastland, Texas. The family had moved to Mitchell County in 1910 and John, like many of his relatives, was a farmer by trade. |
Martha married John Griffin (1872-1945). They had the following children: Arthur 91895-1941), Roy 91896-1962), Lottie (1900-1943), Vida (1904-1904), John (1904-1905), Audrey (1906-1994), Floyd (1909-1978), Christine (1911-2003), Ruby (1913-2008), and Cecil (1916-1995).
Sidney married Amanda Hopper (1877-1968) on August 9, 1897. He died while visiting his sons in Lafayette Louisiana. They had the following children: Cynthia (1898-1988), Annie (1899-1916), Treva (1901-1991), Euliss (1902-1975), Robert (1905-1981), Beulah (1907-2003), Era (1908-1981), Vera (1908-1987), Sidney (1915-1997), Jesse (1918-1972), and Helen (1921-2001).
Eula married William Tunstill (1876-1944). They had the following children: Garland (1901-1980), Orville (1903-1971), Granville (1905-1991), Ruby (1908-1989), William (1912-2001), Jack (1921-1997), and James (1925-1987).
Georgia married William Guthrie (1885-1924). They had the following children: Robert (1904-1960), Anita (1905-1966), Eula 91906-1985), and William (1914-1997).
James married Della Simmons (1893-1929) in 1909. They had the following children: Ruby (1911-1990), Robert (1914-1994), James (1917-2007), William (1919-1936), Olen (1922-1947), and Ozella (1925-2009).

Harvey Compton and Ora Free
Harvey Compton was born January 13, 1878 in Alabama. He married Ora Free (1883-1970). They had the following children: Clarence (1902-1902), Clinton (1904-1941), Richard (1905-1976), Hazel (1907-2001), Leldon (1910-1993) Lucile (1912-1914), Harvey (1918-2004), Claudia (1920-2014), and Joyce (1923-2000). Per the 1910 census, he and his family had come to Eastland County in Texas so that he could farm. By the 1930 census he was a truck driver and did general hauling. He died on February 18, 1934 in Colorado City, Texas. According to the Mitchell County news he had an attack of acute indigestion. According to his death certificate he died from an aortic dilation of his heart - the aortic valve became too enlarged.3
Clinton died from an embolism due to a fracture of his right hip and phlebitis of his left leg (vein inflammation). He was an electrician by trade and had fallen from an electrical line and injured himself.4
Richard had been an electrician and was a veteran of World War II. He married Gertrude Schafer (1907-1969) in 1928 in Austin, Texas.5 They lived in Colorado city. He died from cancer and from heart disease.6
Hazel married Marvin McCollum. They had the following children: Billie (1926-) and Weldon (1932-).
Leldon married Ina Lee(1915-1957) in 1936. They had the following children: Marsha (1944-2013) and Stephen (1949-1997).
Betsy married Homer Wyatt (1911-1978) on November 2, 1935 in Colorado City. She was a nurse and worked in Big Spring and at Root Memorial Hospital in Colorado City.
Harvey had been a truck driver and was a World War II veteran. He married Letha Redwine (1919-1998) in 1937. They had the following children: Richard, Judy (1949-2010), Claudia, and Kenneth (1954-1979).
Claudia married Bernie McCreary (1909-1986). They had two children: Warren (1941-1992) and Michael (1949-2008).
