Edward Bumpas and Hannah Annable
Edward Bumpas/ Edouard Bompasse was born in the early 1600s in London. He arrived in the New World on the first ship after the Mayflower, the Fortune. 1 In his genealogy work, Lynn Albert Bumpas, a dependent of Edouard Bompassee identified Edouard as having sold
his acre of land on the north side of town in 1628 and was granted 20 acres of land on Duxbury Bay where he settlemed and built a house and palisado...He is included in the 1643 list of men of Marshfield able to bear arms...After 1656 he seems to have lost control of his properties and through lack of cooperation in the family he and his wife Hannah were to some extent dependent upon the community for their well being.2
He married Hannah Annable (1602-1693) when he was twenty-five years old. He and Hannah had the following children: Sarah (1631-), Elizabeth (1633-), John (1636-1715), Edward (1638-1693), Joseph (1639-1704), Isaac (1642-), Jacob (1644-1720), Hannah (1646-1672), Philip (1648-), Thomas (1650-1724), Mary (1652-1692), and Samuel (1654-1676). 3
The Great Migration and the Great Migration Begins, 1620-1635 identifies Edward Bompass as being on the list of men who could own arms and he was also "in the list of Purchasers, and on the 3 June 1662 he was one of those permitted to 'look out accomodations of land, as being the first born children of this govenrment.'"4

Of the twleve children of Edward Bumpas, the births of the first eight were recorded together in Marshfield, and the births of the last four were not recorded. Since Bumpas lived first in Plymouth, then in Duxbury, and by 1643 in Marshfield, we cannot tell in which town any of the first six were born, but the last six are here assumed to be born at Marshfield. 5
Sarah married Thomas Durram. Elizabeth married Joseph Rose. John married Sarah Hunter. Edward died unmarried. Joseph married Wybra Glass. Jacob married Elizabeth. Hannah was unmarried. Philip married Sarah Eaton. Thomas married Phebe Lovel. Mary wed Daniel Crocker. Samuel died unmarried as a casualty of King Philip's War at Pawtucket.
