My cousins and I shared James Wylie as our common ancestor. James is my paternal great-great grandfather. I bear the name that was given to him by his father; the name that James passed on to his descendants: Wylie. James had six children with two wives. His first wife died not long after the birth of their only child. His second marriage occurred when his new bride was in her late twenties and he was in his mid-sixties. They had five children in the decade they were married: Samuel Wylie (my great-grandfather), James Renwick Wylie, Margaret Wylie, Bryce Wylie, and William Wylie. There are some stories that I know of that feature my grandfather, Samuel Wylie, Jr. and his uncles - but information on the Wylie family has been fairly difficult for me to find. The DNA test connected me to James Renwick Wylie's descendants.
I started talking to my new cousins over social media and eventually over the phone. Robin, the great-great grandaughter of James Renwick Wylie asked if we would like to come to the 8th Wylie family reunion for their side of the family. After discussing it with my dad, we of course, said "Yes"! Dad and I packed up and flew to Bigfork, Motnana for the 8th Wylie family reunion. I was so excited because we were actually meeting these cousins for the first time AND Dad is Samuel John Wylie, III and we were meeting James Renwick Wylie, III - that's pretty cool, am I right?
