Thor is the dog that made me want a dog of my own. He gave me hope for my puppy - and he has helped make Bronson into an excellent adult dog. When I look at this picture, I see the face of my furry friend. Thor has been through a lot in his life. When he was a few years old he got out of our yard and was hit by a car. The vet told us that he would lose his leg, but he didn't and he is still his old springy self. When my grandmother died, 5 years ago (holy crap y'all, has it been that long?) he was the one to comfort me first. He curled himself around me and licked my face. This guy is loved unconditionally by the humans in his life. My buddy's face is one of love and endless patience. He is always excited, always loving, and always happy to see his people. He is a blessing I am thankful for every day. And that's what I see when I look at this picture. |
My selfie this week is of me and this guy, Thor. I've loved Thor for eight years. This week my selfie is with Thor.

Week 19 was a big week for me! I decided to open my own online boutique and I became a merchandiser with Choe + Isabel! I'm pretty excited about this jewelry! I have some pretty serious metal allergies and Chloe + Isabel is nickel free and hypoallergenic and it comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Every few years the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts brings in Tibetan monks for a ceremony (please see slide show below). This year I mentioned to my people that it was happening and that I wanted to go - I think that i went to the first ceremony but missed the second. Well, we are officially in the apartment. I also decided that I was going to start decorating the house I'm moving into. Annnnd I started (another) blog about decorating and DIY projects. It's called Fox in the Farmhouse because 1) foxes are my favorite animal 2) I'm shooing for farmhouse decor here. See? See? It makes sense.
When I think back to the beginning of the week I took this selfie...holy moly y'all it was crazy! First of all, September is a crazy month because there are...like 10 family birthdays in it. Yep. That's right. Cousins, parents, "siblings" - we're a whole bunch of September babies. And it's still not over. We still have two more birthday parties to go to! The 14th I spent like pretty much every other Monday since school started, working on lecture notes for my classes this week - which is hard work and definitely makes me appreciate literally every teacher I've ever had. The 15th my guest blog post with MyCanvas went live (and you can and should read about it here). The 15th we also started packing up the house that's been our home for seven years. The 16th is my dad's birthday and we also signed a lease on an apartment. The 17th is my "sister's" birthday, the 18th I took off the afternoon to go home and start throwing things into cars and boxes before a birthday party our friends were throwing. The 19th was my 27th birthday and moving day.
This is the house of stored possessions, of fishing trips, of antique finds. It's the house of good times and heartache and hopes and dreams and failures (thanks Pinterest). This is the house of discovery - of unexpected discoveries. It's the house of concrete floors and no allergies. It's the house that floods when it rains too hard. It's the house of irises from grandmother's yards and Alabama. Did you know there is a pink rose bush on the side that won't die? It's been hacked to the ground three or four times, but it just keeps coming right back up - bigger than before - right into the breaker box.
I like this picture. I like that it was my birthday picture. I like that the house is behind me. Leaving it was bittersweet. I know that things will really change now (and it will be for the best), but I've loved the time that I spent there and I am sad to see us go. #herestonewbeginnings #TresRiosHouse This week was very busy. Things are wrapping up at the house. We cleaned out the garage, part of the kitchen, and some other miscellaneous things. The real packing starts this week and next weekend.
I thought about all of the pictures that I carried with me - the information that had survived for over 100 years. It's been touched, loved, and moved over and over again and now with me it is being moved again.
Amazing to think about, isn't it? You think about what their lives must have been like. I know my great-grandmother made one of the first moves in her life in a covered wagon. I'm making another move (not my first by any means) in a Pontiac Vibe. The same car I had when I did make my first move. Although the method is different, I do wonder sometimes about the motivations. Did my great-great grandmother feel the same kind of anxiety about starting over in a new home that I feel? I'm certain she did - and at least I don't have a the littles that she had to take care of either! I've been sitting on this post for over a year (the day that I'm writing this post is October 14, 2016 even though the blog date stamp is September 2015!) trying to figure out what to say about the picture that I found. This has been a big week for world history. Not only is the American presidential race entering the final stretch (with voting in November), but Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej died. He was the world's longest reigning monarch and had ruled longer than Queen Elizabeth II.
This week was another busy week. Once again to the hill country - this time it was for a football game! I'd like to preface this by saying that I don't really care for football. At all. However, this was the Arizona State vs. Texas A&M game, and y'all know I'm an Aggie. I was invested. Needless to say, A&M won (of course) and the weekend had some tense game moments, but it was still a great time.
This week was craaaaazy!!!! I was asked to be an adjunct instructor for the Fall semester - which is SUPER exciting. So, school started last week. In addition to planning for my classes my FAVORITE ;) cousin was also getting married August 29th and I had planned to stay with one of my best friends. What a busy week! I definitely felt overbooked with so much crammed into my schedule.
