I went to my grandfather's house this afternoon and he gave me my grandmother's bible, his Geneva Convention ID card, and a small square leather box. When I opened it up I found two pictures! At first I thought that they were both tintypes. I have several of those, so I did not expect to find anything different with this genealogical discovery. One of the tintypes was loose, with a boarder. The other was behind glass.
I thought it was a little odd that it was behind class, so when we got home we took it out of its container. Initially we thought that the image of the tintype had somehow transferred onto the class. We realized that this was an ambrotype and not a tintype! It dates from around 1850. I believe that it is Isabel Mary White. I will take a better picture before I put it onto the surname portion of the blog.
