I gave my parents one request and some hurried instructions: "Come back with family history!"and "Take pictures with your phone - more than one picture of each item!" and "See if you can make pictures of Bible records!" and then they were off! My parents had a wonderful lunch with my dad's cousin. For a long time it was just the two of them; their mothers were very close even though their children were 12 years apart. They have always had a very special bond.
My parents returned with a yearbook. The yearbook featured pictures and stories of my great-aunt and poems
written by my grandmother. I delighted in looking through its pages and seeing their faces and reading their stories. I discovered that my great-aunt had been a model in New York City! This was even something that my cousin remarked on - who could have imagined this? Finding sources, like this yearbook, that provide insight into the high school live of my ancestors is a wonderful discovery - and this was certainly unexpected. I wonder, looking at my old yearbooks, what my descendants will say when they look at these timestamps on moments in my life. When I look at my own yearbooks it is always with a critical eye. I often find myself wondering what I was thinking styling my hair in a certain way or wearing a certain shirt. I imagine that my great-aunt and my grandmother felt the same thing when they looked at certain pictures from their youth. I know that my decedents will look upon my pictures with the same |
